About Christopher
Originally from Bakersfield, California, Christopher Robert Briggs Rodriguez is an emerging baritone whose work spans a diverse repertoire. On the opera stage he has performed the roles of Inspector Lestrade (Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Fallen Giant), Pandolfe (Cendrillon), Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas), Dancaïre and Zuniga (Carmen), Shadow Edgar (Tell Tale Heart), Antonio and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Sam (Trouble in Tahiti), Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus), Superintendent Budd (Albert Herring), Don Alhambra (The Gondoliers), Ufficiale (Rigoletto), The Bonze (Madama Butterfly) and Narciso. (Bless Me, Ultima) He has also created the roles of Stanton from Kenneth Froelich’s State of Jefferson, Everybody from Evan Mack’s Lucinda y las Flores de la Nochebuena and Houdini and Christian in Robert Paterson’s New York Stories.
An avid oratorio and concert singer, Christopher has had the pleasure of performing with various choral and orchestral groups, such as the American Modern Ensemble, Verdigris Ensemble, Lafayette Musicians, North Texas Baroque Orchestra, Fantasmi Ensemble, Denton Bach Society, St. John's Cathedral Cantors, NOVA New Music Ensemble, and Fresno State Grand Chorus and Symphony in performances of Handel’s Messiah, Peter Maxwell Davies’ Eight Songs for a Mad King, Ligeti’s Aventures, Carissimi’s Jonas and Jephte, Charpentier’s Esther, Herbert Howells’ Requiem, Duruflé’s Requiem, and Fauré’s Requiem.
In addition to his work on the opera and concert stage, Christopher is an accomplished recital singer. He has performed such cycles as Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin, Schumann's Dichterliebe, Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes, DvoÅ™ak’s Cikánské melodie, Finzi’s Let Us Garlands Bring, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel and House of Life, and Ravel’s Histoire naturelles amongst many others.
He attended the University of North Texas where he studied with bass-baritone, Stephen Morscheck and received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and Vocal Coaching. He received his Bachelor and Master of Arts in Vocal Performance from California State University, Fresno, where he was the inaugural recipient of the Edna Garabedian Vocal Performance Award. Christopher currently serves as voice faculty at University of the Incarnate Word and Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
